Rainier View Christian Church began as a home Bible study in 1955. We have been at our present location since 1989. We are a non-denominational fellowship of believers participating in the brotherhood of Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. This brotherhood of churches supports a network of Christian ministries around the world. We are a part of the universal church in that we believe in the deity of Jesus, as the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and as our Savior and Lord. We believe that we are not the only Christians, but we seek to be Christians only. We adhere to the New Testament as our guide for governing congregational life. We try to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where it is silent. We seek a unity of understanding in the essentials of our faith yet do not suggest that we must agree on all things. Our hope is that in essentials there would be unity, in non-essentials, liberty, and in all things, love. What We Believe About The BibleThe scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God, and our inspiration and complete authority. Deuteronomy 8:3; Proverbs 30:5-6; Romans 15:4; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-21 What We Believe About GodWe believe in only one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the divine nature of the one and only God. Genesis 1:1-2; Matthew 28:18-20; John 1:1-2, 8:58; I Corinthians 6:11, 8:6; Acts 2:32-33 We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who by the miracle of the virgin birth became man without ceasing to be God in order to reveal God and to redeem man. While being sinless, He died on the cross for the atonement of our sins and rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and will return again. Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:21, 24:24; John 14:3; Romans 4:24, 8:34; We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify God and the Lord Jesus Christ, by convicting mankind and indwelling the believer; as well as instructing, comforting, and empowering the believer for godly living and service. We believe in the spiritual gifts as given by the Holy Spirit, but we have chosen not to practice the “sign” gifts, such as speaking in tongues, during our times of corporate worship. John 14:16; I Corinthians 2:12-13, 14:23-25; Galatians 5:22-23; What We Believe About SalvationAll have sinned and are in need of salvation. Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 3:23, 6:23;I John 1:8-10; Ephesians 2:1,5 Salvation is the free gift of God made possible by the death of our Lord Jesus on the cross as the payment for our sins. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Romans 5:6-10, 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-10 Saving faith involves believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and results in turning away from sin, making a public confession of faith, being baptized, and following in the steps of Jesus. As was the practice in the New Testament, Rainier View Christian Church baptizes by immersion those who have made a confession of faith. Matthew 28:19; John 3:16-17; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4, 10:9-10; I Peter 2:21 What We Believe About the ChurchWe believe that the true church is made up of all people who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been made a new creation by the Holy Spirit. We are united together in the body of Christ as brothers and sisters and fellow servants giving our allegiance and service to Jesus Christ, our Head. Matthew 16:13-18; II Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 2:19-20 We believe one of the primary reasons the church gathered to worship on the first day of the week was to celebrate the Lord’s Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 2:42, 20:7; I Corinthians 11:23-29 We believe that Jesus is coming again to take His bride, the church, to heaven. When He does, there will be a bodily resurrection of the dead - of believers in Christ to everlasting joy with the almighty Lord in heaven - AND - of the unbeliever and Satan, the father of lies, to judgment and everlasting punishment in hell, which is separation from the love and presence of God. Matthew 5:22, 10:28; Luke 16:22-24; John 11:25-26; Romans 8:9; |
