What is The Gathering?

We are a community gathering to worship and know God through the language and art of our culture.  Everyone is welcome, although our language and style is specifically targeted at reaching the emerging and postmodern generations (typically aged 18 to 30-Something) of our culture in Pierce County.  Our hope is that from the moment we come together, we will begin an encounter with God, where He can speak to us while we communicate with Him through authentic expressions of our hearts.

How did The Gathering get started?

For over 50 years, we at Rainier View Christian Church have desired to introduce the people of Pierce County to Jesus Christ.  In recent years, many of us have noticed the emerging generations connecting less and less with how we “do church,” leaving us with a burden to be more effective in how we minister to them.  This led to a dream and vision to change our methods so that we could effectively communicate God’s message of love.

This dream and vision is to launch a new ministry, what we call The Gathering.  The emerging generations are part of a cultural shift that has been evolving over the last few decades towards a postmodern way of thinking.  The Gathering hopes to use a language and style that postmoderns can relate to, which will help all of us to know God better and make Him known more! 

Pastors Andy, Scott, and Jake feel called by God to lead an effort to (re)connect the emerging and postmodern culture with God and His Church!  And thus, with a core of Rainier View Christians who feel passionate about this vision, we launched The Gathering. If you are interested in joining or supporting us in this community, please contact us!
