We hold to the belief that:
In ESSENTIAL beliefs, we have UNITY
(Ephesians 4:4-6)
In NON-ESSENTIAL beliefs, we have LIBERTY
(Hebrews 12:1)
And in ALL our beliefs, we show LOVE
(I Corinthians 13:2)
We hold the following to be scriptural, essential truths.
GOD
We believe in one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They're all equally perfect and divine, and work together in complementary ways to redeem the world. We believe in God the Father, who, along with the Son and the Holy Spirit, created everything. He’s eternal, loving and unchanging. We believe in God the Son, who became a human, born to the Virgin Mary, and was named Jesus. He died on a cross for the forgiveness of our sin and came back to life, providing a way for us to be made right with God. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father through the Son, to help us know what's right, empower and equip the Church, and help us do the work Jesus started on Earth.
THE BIBLE
Psalm 119:105; Matthew 24:35; 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17
We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God provided to develop our faith and guide our everyday life.
SALVATION
John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
We believe that Jesus came to restore our relationship with God. He lived a perfect life and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, and that God raised Him from the dead defeating death. We believe we can't save ourselves; salvation is by God's grace alone and received through faith, repentance and acceptance of Jesus’ sacrifice.
HUMANITY
We believe each and every person is created in the image of God and for relationship with Him. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the garden, they placed a divide in that relationship through sin. As a result, people are unable to achieve a right relationship with God through their own efforts.
The following statements are based upon our understanding of Scripture
and are the basis for living the Christian life as a community of believers.
COMMUNION
Luke 22:7-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-28
We believe in remembering Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection by taking the bread and the cup of communion at our weekend services. We practice an open communion for all believers regardless of church background.
CHRISTIAN LIFE
1 John 2:6; Colossians 3:23; 1 Peter 4:10;
Ephesians 2:10; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. As we understand and apply the Word of God and yield to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and become more like Jesus. We believe all believers should contribute to the work of God through their spiritual gifts and generosity.
WATER BAPTISM
Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:4
We believe that water baptism by immersion is an outward sign of an inward work and is commanded by God following the decision to follow Christ. Baptism is symbolic of Christ’s burial and resurrection and represents new life in Him.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Ephesians 3:16; John 15:4, 15:8;
Romans 8:5, 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11;
Galatians 5:16-25; 1 Peter 4:10-11
We believe the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to be exercised orderly, and in love. These gifts are given to build up and equip individual believers and the Church. The fruit of the Spirit to be cultivated in the life of every believer is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
THE CHURCH
Acts 2:42-47, 16:5; Romans 12:5; Hebrews 10:24-25
We believe that the church is the visible body of Christ, comprised of imperfect individuals who have placed their faith in the person and work of Jesus. The church exists to love God and demonstrate the love of God to others.
LEADERSHIP
Genesis 1:26-27; Ephesians 4:12;
1 Corinthians 12:1-11; Romans 12:3-8
RVCC subscribes to the principles of complete mutuality so that there is no gender bias and no gender limitations. All church roles and offices are based on non-gender qualifications where men and women are equally valued and respected.
OUR STORY
In 1955, five families followed God’s leading to plant a new church, and Parkland Christian Church was started. Twenty-two years after meeting first as a home Bible study, the congregation purchased 15 acres on Spanaway Loop Road – our current Parkland location.
In the early 2000’s we began to look beyond Parkland with dreams to reach the unchurched throughout Pierce County, specifically in the rapidly growing areas of South Hill and Graham. Ultimately this dream led to a merge with Rainier View Christian Church, a church planted 13 years earlier in Graham.
The goal to work together and re-launch a better-resourced ministry back into South Pierce County was realized in 2003 with the beginning of our second campus. Our Graham campus has been in its current location since 2010. As we started our second site, moving beyond Parkland, we changed our name from Parkland Christian Church to Rainier View Christian Church.
We have been part of our community for more than 60 years and we will continue to be a place where everyone is welcome. We'd love for YOU to be a part of our story.
